#4: Vince's Next Competition and What He Takes for
Protein Shakes
Q: Hey Vince,
What are your competition plans? When are you going to
compete again, and do you want to turn pro?
...Dave OReilly
A: Hello Dave,
Thanks for the questions.
I always compete against myself, and I try to come in
bigger and in better condition than at the previous contest.
Is turning pro something that I would like to achieve? I
guess I would have to say yes! Throughout my years of competing provincially and
nationally, I have always set realistic goals for myself. Now that I have accomplished
those goals, the next step is to achieve an Overall title at the national level. This will
not be an easy feat, as there is always someone bigger. However, my off-season training
and nutrition program is going great guns. I took 2005 off in preparation for 2006. On
September 16 at the Canadian Bodybuilding Championships this year, I can assure you, I
will be at my best. With any luck, I will have achieved another goal.
Until next time
train hard, train fast, GET BIG.

Q: Hi Vince,
Do you take protein shakes? Do you think its
important? If so, what kind of protein shake do you make? Do you use milk or water? How
many times a day?
Thanks,
...Jim Rimble
A: Great question, Jim.
I will try to keep this simple. First, let me explain the
purpose of protein intake. Simply put, protein makes up the building blocks of muscle.
Without proper protein consumption our bodies refuse to grow. An easy guideline to follow
is 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Personally, I use around 1.5 to 2 grams per
pound of bodyweight. Keep in mind I have been doing this for quite some time, so my
absorption rate is different from most. To achieve this, I do need the help of protein
shakes. I use three to four shakes per day. I do, however, eat seven or eight meals per
day. Protein shakes should NEVER take the place of a meal!
I use combination whey called WheyProXL by Interactive
Nutrition. All shakes are mixed in water - this is just a preference of mine.
Off-season nutrition would allow for milk to be used.
Until next time
train hard, train fast, GET BIG.
