Training and Nutrition Strategy:

  • My nutritional and training strategy that I use today is all self taught. I have learned through many years of trial and error.
  • When weight training in the off-season I like to stick to basic movements and use heavy weights for lower repetitions.
  • In the off-season I train 5 days per week with a diet that has high protein and moderate carbohydrates. I supplement with vitamins.
  • For contest preparation I use lighter weights and higher repetitions.
  • When preparing for a contest I also increase training to 6 days per week. My diet remains generally the same, although I decrease my carbohydrates.
  • I believe that what you eat reflects on how your body appears so I am very careful when selecting my food.
  • Water is very important and I drink about 5 litres per day both in the off-season and during competition preparation.

Goals and Achievements:

  • My 2002 bodybuilding goals are to again place at the top of the 2002 CBBF National World Qualifier (to be held in Halifax, NS) and then to again compete in and move my placing to the top spots at the 2002 IFBB World Women's Championships.
  • In both 1996 and 1997 I received the "Ottawa Canada Excellence" award for bodybuilding. It was presented to me by the Mayors of Ottawa at the time at the ACT Annual Sports Awards held at the Congress Centre in Ottawa.  Both times it was televised and I received a plaque and medal for each year. This award is to recognize outstanding amateur athletes in this area.

Johanna Dejager stunned both the Ontario and Canadian judges this year with her super-ripped condition. This training photo was taken at her gym one-week prior to competing at the 2001 IFBB World Women's Championships held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
